Airtime lets you share media while you video chat, reminds you That Napster Guy is still around

Hey, remember the guy that created Napster, Shawn Fanning? Do you remember Facebook co-founder (and supposed Justin Timberlake doppelganger) Sean Parker? Good, as that'll make it easier to understand why the two have created Airtime, a heavily hyped new peer-to-peer video chat service. The aim is to offer a one-on-one conversation that helps people understand each other, with shared interests and the ability to quickly fling that LOLcat video to a friend or significant other. It's launching first on Facebook, which is nothing new for video chat, but the absence of any in-between servers and special plugins beyond Flash eliminates a lot of the usual hurdles. More features are coming in the near future, including a decidedly Flash-free iOS app, music streaming and games -- leaving us with considerably more things to do while we reconnect, or at least a more engaging way to reminisce about the Napster days.

Sony announces white PS Vita bundle with Assassin's Creed III: Liberation

Still not sold on the PlayStation Vita? Then Sony's hoping that it's latest bundle will be more to your liking. In addition to the just-announced Assassin's Creed III: Liberation game, it packs a limited edition "crystal white" PS Vita (WiFi only), along with a 4GB memory card. Unfortunately, you'll still have a bit of a wait before you can get your hands on it, with the bundle only set to hit stores on October 30th (coinciding with the game's release). No word on a price for it just yet, nor is there any word on the white PS Vita being sold separately. Not to be left out, the PlayStation 3 is also getting an Assassin's Creed III bundle of its own, which includes the game and some exclusive DLC -- no price for it either, though.

TweetDeck to launch as HTML5 Web app, now accepting beta testers

When TweetDeck landed in the Chrome Web Store, it seemed like an indication that it might eventually evolve into a pure HTML5 Web app. Now it looks as though that's exactly what's going to happen, with TweetDeck announcing that a new, not-just-for-Chrome Web client is ready for beta testing.

It's a natural progression for TweetDeck, especially since its originally Adobe Air app is practically all Web code. TweetDeck Web will sport a feature set which is nearly identical to the Chrome app, with the notable exception of Twitter streaming.

Initially, TweetDeck is targeting Firefox 4 and 3.6, Google Chrome, and Safari. Opera and Internet Explorer 9 won't be invited to the dance until a bit later on.

A different shade of Galaxy S III spotted in Germany (video)

While Europeans earnestly wait for their pre-ordered pebble blue superphones to appear, a hands-on video from Germany is purportedly showing us a darker, grayer version of Samsung's Galaxy S III. While the skeptic in us would say it's just a lighting issue, the back cover looks perceptibly different to the blue-hued slab we spent time with during its big reveal. It looks almost monochromatic -- and even shinier, if that's possible. The color borders on gun-metal gray and we have to admit, we're already a little smitten. Samsung's had issues bringing the blueish hue to the masses, so this could turn out to be the new non-white color option. Black and white is a bit played out, so our fingers are crossed that we'll get to have our pebble-colored cake and eat it. Check out the possible new look in a hands-on video after the break -- and bring on the hot pink option.

Sauber split an F1 racing car in half

Racing team Sauber has done something never attempted before and managed to split a Formula 1 car in half. It took them two years to do it, but for any racing fans out there it was definitely worth it. For the first time we can see exactly how an F1 car is laid out from front to back.

Having stood next to one of these cars, it’s surprising how small they actually are. What you don’t realize until you see inside is just how low everything is positioned to keep the center of gravity as close to the ground as possible.

That desire to keep everything as low as possible even extends to the fuel. As you can see, the fuel tank includes a number of baffles and a pipe system. Each race the car starts with a close to full tank of fuel, but as the race progresses it gets used up leaving an empty space. The engineers don’t want that fuel sloshing about as it will adversely affect performance, so they force it down through the pipe and keep it from moving too much with the sectional baffles.

The driver has to have a lot of trust in the car and the team. His back is just 50mm away from the fuel tank, and his backside is a mere 10mm off the ground. When you see these cars go over a bump you can guarantee the driver feels it. Their seat is a carbon honeycomb structure with a minimal amount of foam padding to help with comfort. It’s very strong while remaining lightweight, and acts as a safety shell that protects the driver from being injured in all but the worst of crashes, but it isn’t exactly comfortable.

Looking at the car as a whole, there’s doesn’t seem to be that many components. That’s mainly due to everything you’d expect to find on a typical car being miniaturized as far as possible. The end result is a racing car that can hit 300 km/h and weighs as little as 440kg before you add the driver and fuel. Impressive stuff.

• Update (10:24 a.m.) - We've identified the issue and have ordered a Sentinel strike.
• Update (11:25 a.m.) - Google decided to treat one of our ad partner's javascript code as suspicious. The code has been removed and we have requested Google to rescan the site. We have no reports of the ad partner actually serving malware, and the site should be safe to visit.
• Update (2:30 p.m.) - We're seeing occasional malware warnings on the blog side now. Again, there's no malicious code -- we're just waiting on Google to rescan things. You can visit the site without worry.
• Update (5 p.m.) - Per Google: A review for this site has finished. The site was found clean. The badware warnings from web search are being removed. Please note that it can take some time for this change to propagate.
